Support Staff Day

On Friday we celebrated Support Staff Day.  John Owens has been working all year with our students in Room 19 in particular with Kaea.  We made a big fuss of Mr Owens on Friday because he does a great job supporting our learners everyday.

We made him wear his "Support Staff" hat all day.   We hope you have had a chance to have a cuppa and a choccie biscuit Mr Owens.

Self Control and Resilience

At Elm Park we have three values Respect, Resilience and Responsibility.   We have spent many hours talking about these values and ways that we can demonstrate these positively in our class and around Elm Park.

On Wednesday the class was involved in a "self control challenge".  At the end of the challenge we talked about the "pros" and "cons" (see the picture) and then linked it directly to our "Resilience" value.

It was really interesting to see how focused the class was during the afternoon learning session, they even commented themselves about how "on task" they all were.  We will continue to be involved in a variety of "self control" activities over the next few week.

Can you guess what our challenge was ?

Senior & Middle School Jump Jam

Our house captains have been taking our jump jam sessions on Friday morning.  Awesome effort Everest, Sukie, Caitlin, Kaea - we are looking forward to learning our new jump jam song in the next few weeks.

We had a few visitors during our "Who Let The Dog's Out" song ... thanks Jordan, Kahlan and Adeline for bringing in your furry friends as part of our PB4L rewards for 50 ticks.

Morning Karakia and Waita

Everyone morning we begin our day with a karakia and waita.  Everyone gets the opportunity to lead the karakia and we have a great group of children (Caitlin, Shaniqua, Ella, Meilaniah and Kaea) supporting us by playing the ukulele and sometime being the lead singers.

Here is a video of our waita this morning - E Minaka Ana, Kaea was one of our lead singers ...

Our Edible Gardens

Halfway through term 1 one of our grandparents offered to take a small group of students each Thursday afternoon to transform some of our senior school gardens (which were looking pretty miserable).  Those students who were interested wrote to Mrs Bradley and Emma, Kaea, Nicolaas and Adeline were chosen.  They have done a fantastic job of preparing the soil, caring for our plants they look amazing.

We have now expanded our group and spread the green fingers disease, we have separated our strawberries and replanted and made some of cuttings to replant elsewhere in our gardens ... a HUGE thank you to Mrs Bradley.

Do you recognise any of plants were are growing ????

Welcome to Amazing Room 19 Learners

Welcome to our classroom blog that was created at the beginning of the year to initially record our journey of PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning).

I strongly believe that developing a positive relationship and partnership with our home community will help promote and encourage our room 19 amazing learners to "achieve their personal best".

I will now be using this blog to share what we are learning and what is happening in room 19 and it would be really exciting and supportive if our room 19 parent and friends would take the time to follow us and give us some feedback along the way.  I will also be linking each child's or even leave a e-portfolio which will give you quick and easy access to your child's learning.

I really hope you enjoy following what we get up to and we look forward to receiving lots of feedback from everyone.
